On July 26th, I attended a networking event at ADAC (Atlanta Decorative Arts Center in Atlanta, GA) in the T. Botero Galleries, a gallery that exhibits original fine art to the design trade. There were a number of good pieces in the gallery, but there were two pieces that I thought were extraordinary by a young Atlanta native artist and designer, Shinekia Thomas of Shinekia Thomas L’atelier. Much like the image, the pieces in the gallery were drawn with bold, confident lines and curves with swaths of paint/color/ink. I am not entirely sure of the order of her process or her medium, but the result was elegant, expressive and delicate. Her work has a lovely poetic tremor about it. What I learned about her was that she has been painting since she was very young, but studied fashion design in the United States and Paris. Her work (women’s fashion and art) is inspired by haute couture and she is interested in enhancing the woman’s body through her interest in art, fashion and architecture.
